Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators surrendered four third period tallies en route to a 6-3 loss to the visiting Syracuse Crunch. After a scoreless opening period, the teams traded two goals apiece in the second setting up an even third period start. The Crunch managed to score twice in the opening five minutes of the third to open up a 4-2 lead and coast to the win.
Jonathan Marchessault opened the scoring 1:38 into the second frame off assists from Jake Dotchin and Cedric Paquette. Syracuse made it 2-0 just past the nine minute mark of the period when Slater Koekkoek scored his first professional goal on the power play.
Just over a minute later, Binghamton cut the deficit to one when Jean-Gabriel Pageau received a cross-ice feed from Chris Wideman and buried it past the Crunch's Kristers Gudlevskis for his third goal this year. The B-Sens evened the score 2-2 at 12:26 when Matt Puempel took a feed from Ryan Dzingel behind the net and backhanded it past Gudlevskis.
Third period goals from Cody Kunyk and Joel Vermin in the opening five minutes made it 4-2 Syracuse. Wideman returned the deficit to just a single goal with a power-play goal just shy of the seven minute mark, but two goals from the Crunch in the closing eight minutes of play moved the final score to 6-3 Syracuse.
Wideman finished with a goal and an assist, moving his point-scoring streak to nine straight. Paquette and Vermin both finished with a goal and an assist to lead Syracuse. Andrew Hammond allowed six goals on 34 shots faced while Gudlevskis earned the victory stopping 25 of 28 shots faced.
