November 1, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
St. John's IceCaps News Release

The St. John's IceCaps dropped a 6-2 decision to the Manchester Monarchs Saturday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH.

Ben Chiarot and John Albert scored for the IceCaps who were outshot 36-23 and surrendered three powerplay goals.

Manchester struck first at 5:07 into the contest as Scott Sabourin converted on an IceCap turnover in front of netminder Peter Budaj. St. John's squared the game at 13:28 on the powerplay, when Chiarot scooted in from the blueline to deposit a loose puck in the crease past Monarchs netminder J.F. Berube. Scott Kosmachuk and Patrice Cormier collected assists. Manchester restored the lead just 35 seconds later as Sean Backman deflected a shot past Budaj.

The Monarchs took a two-goal lead at 1:07 of the second period on a Colin Miller powerplay slapper from the point. Albert brought the IceCaps to within one at the 5:55 mark as he picked off a Manchester pass and finished off a gorgeous short-handed breakaway. However, the Monarchs restored their two-goal lead on Miller's second of the night, on the powerplay at 7:00, before Jamie McBain put the Monarchs ahead 5-2 - Manchester's third straight powerplay goal. Monarchs winger Michael Mersch finished off the scoring at 4:50 of the third going top shelf on Budaj.

The IceCaps travel to Providence Sunday to face the Bruins for their third of three games this weekend (4:35 PM NDT). Catch all the action with broadcaster Brian Rogers at www.stjohnicecaps.com and 930AM, or watch live on AHL Live.
