BRIDGEPORT, Conn (Dec. 19, 2010) ¬" Jeremy Colliton scored the eventual game-winning goal early in the third period and Kevin Poulin turned in another strong performance between the pipes as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers defeated the Portland Pirates 3-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Sound Tigers improve to 15-13-1-2 with the win. Portland drops to 17-10-2-1.
For the second straight game, Micheal Haley gave the Sound Tigers a 1-0 lead in the first period. This time it came on the power play as Haley deflected Robin Figren's centering feed past Portland netminder David Leggio. The tally was Haley's seventh of the season, his fifth goal in four games and it gave the Sound Tigers a one-goal lead. That set off the Sound Tigers Annual Teddy Bear toss, where fans tossed brand new stuffed animals onto the ice that will be delivered to local area hospitals by Sound Tigers players this week.
Portland evened the score just 25 seconds later. Tim Conboy's initial shot from the point was stopped, however Luke Adam found the rebound to Kevin Poulin's right. Adam finished for his 12th goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1.
The score remained that way through the second period as the Sound Tigers outshot Portland 10-5, but neither side was able to produce many quality scoring chances. The Sound Tigers retook the lead 4:17 into the third period. Jeremy Colliton deflected Josh Bailey's centering feed for his sixth goal of the season to put the Sound Tigers in front 2-1. Brandon Svendsen secured the win with 54 seconds remaining in regulation with a shot from the point through a Colliton screen, and the Sound Tigers came away with a 3-1 win over the Pirates.
Kevin Poulin was sharp in his second start in less than 24 hours as he made 26 saves to improve to 9-3-0 on the season. David Leggio made 30 saves in the losing effort.
The Sound Tigers next game is on Dec. 26 when they host the Connecticut Whale in their first ever visit to the Arena at Harbor Yard. Gametime is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
