Charlotte Checkers News Release
RALEIGH, NC - Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has reassigned defenseman Bryan Rodney to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). Rodney was recalled on Dec. 14, on an emergency basis for defenseman Jay Harrison, and played in two games during the recall.
Rodney, 26, returns to Charlotte where he leads Checkers blue liners and ranks tied for 14th among AHL defensemen in scoring with 18 points (5g, 13a) in 28 games this season. The London, Ont., native is in his sixth professional season, and his third with the Hurricanes organization. Rodney (6'0", 195 lbs.) made his NHL debut with Carolina on Dec. 11, 2008, and has scored one goal and earned 12 assists (13 points) in 32 career NHL regular-season games with the Hurricanes. Carolina signed Rodney as a free agent on May 12, 2008.
The Carolina Hurricanes will take on the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday at the St. Pete Times Forum (7:30 p.m., Hurricanes Radio Network). Following Monday's game, the Hurricanes will return to Raleigh to host the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday, Dec. 23, at the RBC Center (7 p.m., FOX Sports Carolinas HD, Hurricanes Radio Network).
