Rivermen Sweep Weekend, Shutout Monsters 4-0

The league's best goals-against average dropped again as the Peoria Rivermen shutout the Lake Erie Monsters 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at Carver Arena. Ben Bishop stopped all 14 Monsters' shots to earn his second shutout of the season and the sixth by Peoria so far this season.

The win pushed Peoria's point-streak to 13 games (11-0-2), the longest in the AHL this season and improved their overall record to 20-7-2-1.

T.J. Hensick (1g,1a), Mark Cundari (2a), and Graham Mink (2a) all recorded multi-point games for the Rivermen while Derek Nesbitt scored the game-winning goal for the third consecutive game.

Nesbitt's goal came on the power play just 2:46 into the first period after chipping a bouncing puck over Jason Bacashihua's left leg pad. With Justin Mercier in the box for boarding Hensick and Mink jabbed a puck to the front of the goal before Nesbitt finished the job.

Hensick put the Rivermen up by two halfway through the first, converting on a 3-on-2 with a wrist shot from the right hash mark that traveled under Bacashihua's blocker.

Ryan Reaves deflected a Cundari wrist shot from the blue line into the back of the net at 7:46 in the second period, giving the Rivermen a 3-0 lead. It was the fourth of the year for Reaves who now has five points in the last five games. Peoria added a fourth goal halfway through the third period when Anthony Nigro deflected a Cundari shot between Bacashihua's legs.

The Rivermen finished the game 2-for-5 on the power play, while holding Lake Erie scoreless on four chances.
