Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, lost to the Hershey Bears on "Cool Fun 101" day, 4-1, Wednesday. Students from over 15 schools in Connecticut showed up at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard to cheer on the Sound Tigers in the third-annual, educationally-themed weekday morning game.
Hershey's Joey Tenute got the scoring started in the first period with his seventh goal of the season. Owen Fussey sent a break out pass to Tenute who streaked through the Sound Tigers zone and fired a quick snap shot on Wade Dubielewicz. Dubielewicz made the initial save but was unable to control the rebound. Tenute corralled the lose puck and fired it over the pad of Dubielewicz for the only goal of the first period at 5:16.
Hershey got back to work in the second period, scoring on a four-on-three power play at the 3:43 mark. Lawrence Nycholat scored his third goal of the season on a slap shot from the point that found its way through Dubielewicz making it 2-0 with Boyd Gordon earning the lone assist.
The Sound Tigers gave the students of "Cool Fun 101" something to cheer about when Jeff Hamilton scored his fifth goal of the season at 6:20 of the middle frame, extending a point streak to four games. Colliton sent a saucer pass over the sticks of two Bears defensemen to Hamilton at the left circle who snapped the shot over the blocker of Hershey goalie Frederic Cassivi. Tomi Pettinen also picked up an assist on the play, which cut the Bears lead to 2-1 at the end of the period. Colliton extended an assist streak to five games and a point streak to six games on the goal as well.
In the third period, Hershey's Eric Fehr scored his 11th and 12th goals of the season to seal the victory for the Bears tallying at 1:14 from Tomas Fleischmann and Nycholat and at 6:07 from Mike Green and Tenute.
Dubielewicz made 31 saves for the Sound Tigers who were out shot 35-30 and went 0 for 9 on the power play and were 4 for 5 on the penalty kill. Tenute was the first star of the game, Fehr the second and Hamilton the third.
