Lowell, Mass. - Gerald Coleman stopped 33 shots for his first career shutout as the Springfield Falcons (12-9-1-2) defeated the Lowell Lock Monsters (11-12-1-2) 3-0 at Tsongas Arena on Wednesday night.

The two teams skated to a scoreless tie in the opening stanza. The Lock Monsters played a physical period, however, and outshot the Falcons 15-10. G Kevin Nastiuk got the start for Lowell, and helped thwart a pair of Springfield power plays in the first to keep it scoreless.

The Falcons started taking over in the second. They opened up a two goal lead on goals by Anders Eriksson at 6:22 and Zbynek Hrdel at 14:10. Meanwhile, the Falcons outshot Lowell 10-6 in the period, helped out by three additional power plays.

A broken rush for the Falcons gave them a 3-0 lead in the third period. A deflected shot ended up on the stick of Ryan Craig, who fired the puck off the crossbar and in for his 10th of the season at 4:30. The Lock Monsters continued to pressure, to no avail. Ryan Steeves had two chances in front of the net moments later, only to be denied by G Gerald Coleman. Johnny Boychuk and Pavel Brendl both sent rockets off the post, again keeping Lowell off the board. Coleman's last save of the night came with just over two minutes remaining on a breakaway by Steve Saviano. It was the third time in the last four games Lowell has been shutout.
