Historic Game-Worn Jerseys to be displayed Friday at the Arena

BINGHAMTON - There's nobody more "Old Time Hockey" than Eddie Shore. And there's nothing that represents old-time hockey more than vintage game-worn sweaters from yesteryear. Shore's 1928-29 Boston Bruins game-worn sweater, complete with the sweat and tears of a Stanley Cup championship season, will be only one of numerous historic game-worn jerseys on display Friday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena as the Senators take on the Hershey Bears at 7:05 p.m.
If you talk about old-time hockey, you've also got to talk about some of the old great franchises in Binghamton hockey history: The Dusters, the Whalers, even the old New York-Penn Major Junior Hockey League Barons, who won the 1978-79 Empire Cup at the Chenango Bridge Hockey Rink. Jerseys from each of these franchises will also be on display compliments of the MeiGray Group.
MeiGray is owned and directed by a familiar Binghamton old-time hockey name. Barry Meisel, who covered the Empire Cup champion Barons in 1978-79, as well as the Dusters and Whalers for the Binghamton Press and Sun-Bulletin from 1979-84, will be in attendance at the MeiGray display booth.
"Some of my fondest days in hockey were spent watching the Dusters and Whalers from the old Arena press box," said Meisel, who enjoyed a 12-year career covering NHL hockey and NFL football for the New York Daily News before he created MeiGray in 1997. "And I remember climbing the ladder to get into the press box hanging from one wall of the Chenango Bridge rink. It'll be great to be back."
And if that isn't enough, MeiGray, which directs the NHL-MeiGray and AHL-MeiGray Game-Worn Jersey Programs, will have on display game-worn jerseys worn by Gordie Howe, Doug Harvey, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Rod Gilbert and other Hall of Famers in addition to Binghamton Hockey Hall of Famer Ken Holland, whose 1983-84 Detroit Red Wings gamer will be on display.
The AHL-MeiGray Game-Worn Jersey Program offers collectors the chance to reserve and purchase home and road jerseys from the first half of the 2005-06 AHL season. MeiGray, which also purchased a set of Binghamton Senators jerseys from 2004-05, will have a handful of 2004-05 jerseys on sale, and will be taking reservations on jerseys from this season, as well.
