Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Grand Rapids, MI - The Hamilton Bulldogs surrendered three unanswered goals as they were defeated by the Grand Rapids Griffins 4-3 on Wednesday night at Van Andel Arena. The loss was the Bulldogs fifth straight and dropped the team's record to 8-17-0-2.
Despite being out-shot by a margin of 15-6, Hamilton led Grand Rapids 2-1 after one period of play.
Bulldogs right-winger Duncan Milroy opened the scoring just 4:12 into the game when he chipped a loose puck behind Griffins goaltender Joey MacDonald with Hamilton on the power play.
The lead was short lived as Grand Rapids tied the game just 41 seconds later with a power-play goal of their own when Donald MacLean rifled a shot past Bulldogs netminder Yann Danis. Hamilton regained the lead at the 17:27 mark of the opening frame when Corey Locke centered the puck and it went off a skate and into the Griffins net.
The Bulldogs extended their lead to 3-1 at the 2:26 mark of the second period when Marc-Antoine Pouliot fired a quick shot from the edge of the face-off circle past MacDonald. Former 'Dog Nate DiCasmirro cut Hamilton's lead to one goal when he lifted a backhand shot from in close high over Danis with Grand Rapids on the power play at 9:44. The Griffins tied the game at 3-3 when DiCasmirro, who was positioned behind the Bulldogs net, centered the puck to MacLean, who buried it for his second goal of the night with 2:53 remaining in the middle stanza.
Griffins forward Kent McDonell gave Grand Rapids their first lead of the game, scoring the game-winning goal, at 4:03 of the third period when he blasted a shot past Danis from the high slot.
Hamilton goaltender Danis stopped 37 shots and suffered the loss. Grand Rapids netminder MacDonald made 14 saves to earn the victory.
Hamilton was 1 for 3 on the power play while Grand Rapids scored twice on 10 opportunities with the man-advantage.
The Bulldogs next action will take place on Friday, December 9 when the Syracuse Crunch visit Copps Coliseum. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
