BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, defeated the Lowell Lock Monsters 2-1 at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard on Saturday night. The Sound Tigers were 1 for 3 on the power play and 5 for 5 on the penalty kill, including a five-minute major advantage for Lowell midway through the third period.

As they did in yesterday's fight-filled 4-3 home win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, the Sound Tigers jumped out to an early lead, this time just 1:46 into the first period on Kevin Colley's forth goal of the season. Justin Papineau corralled a loose puck in front of the net and tipped it across to Colley who gave Bridgeport a 1-0 lead. Rob Collins also assisted on the goal for his 11th point in his last ten games, including three points the last two nights.

Lowell tied the game at 1-1 9:00 into of the first period when Sean Curry flipped what seemed to be a harmless backhand towards the goal. The puck deflected off a Sound Tiger defensemen and past goalie Dieter Kochan for Curry's first goal of the season. Colin Forbes had the lone assist on the goal.

The Sound Tigers regained the lead at 6:06 of the second period on Justin Mapletoft's fifth goal of the season. On the power play, Chris Campoli made a pass from the point to Sean Bergenheim who fed Mapletoft near the right face-off circle. Mapletoft ripped a wrist shot top-shelf over the shoulder of Lowell goalie Cam Ward to give Bridgeport a 2-1 lead.

The Sound Tigers just missed scoring their second power-play goal of the game when a shot from Bruno Gervais hit the goal-post at 12:15 of the second period.

At 8:14 of the third period, Graham Belak hit Lowell's Craig MacDonald from behind drawing a five-minute major penalty for boarding. Kochan kept the Sound Tigers in front with some key saves, including a great stop on a rebound shot from the Lock Monsters leading goal-scorer Chuck Kobasew.

Mapletoft was the first star of the game, Kochan who stopped 19 of 20 shots to earn his fifth win of the season, was the second star. Ward made 23 saves on 25 shots for Lowell to earn the game's third star.

The Sound Tigers will finish a four-game home-stand next Friday night when they host the Manchester Monarchs at 7:35 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM and web cast live at www.soundtigers.com.
