Utah Grizzlies News Release

CLEVELAND, OHIO- The Grizzlies earned a point in Cleveland on Friday night as they scored a late goal with less than a minute remaining tying the game sending it to overtime. It finally took a shootout where the teams took 16 rounds to decide things. The final result had Cleveland earn the extra point with the 3-2 victory in a shootout. The shootout loss marks the first time the Grizzlies have earned points in consecutive games.

Utah was outplayed by the Barons in the first period but David LeNeveu looked sharp making 15 saves. The Grizzlies red-hot line of Jarrod Skalde, Erik Westrum and Fredrik Sjostrom created the Grizzlies best scoring chance and the game's first goal when Skalde created a turnover and moved the puck to Westrum whose shot was blocked but right out to Sjostrom who buried a backhand by Nolan Schaefer for his third goal of the year and fourth point in his last two games. Cleveland outshot the Grizzlies 15-8 after 20 minutes.

The Barons scored the only goal of the second period on a fluke goal when Matt Carkner's wrist shot hit Patrick Rissmiller in front of the net and re-directed by LeNeveu. Cleveland outshot the Grizzlies 14-5 in the period for a two period total lead of 29-13. LeNeveu made 28 saves through two periods.

Cleveland would score early in the third period when Ryan Clowe beat LeNeveu on a terrific three-on-two rush. The score would stay that way until the final minute of the game when the Grizzlies would get a power play and pull the goalie for a 6-4 advantage when Jarrod Skalde pushed one past Schaefer tying the game sending it to overtime and eventually to a shootout where it took 16 shooters to gain the decision. Garrett Stafford scored the deciding goal in round 16 beating LeNeveu who finished the night with 38 saves including 13 of 16 in the shootout.

The Grizzlies head to Grand Rapids to take on the Griffins tomorrow night. Face-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM (mt).
