Goaltender Dan Ellis Picks Up First Win

CLEVELAND, OH - Goaltender Dan Ellis earned his first win of the season by making 28 saves, leading the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 4-1 victory over the Cleveland Barons on the National City Rink at Gund Arena. Ellis posted his first career Bulldogs victory on his tenth start of the season.

With the win, the Bulldogs now have 21 points on the season and pulled into a tie with the Barons for sixth place in the AHL's North Division.

The Barons opened the scoring on the game's first power play. Ryan Clowe scored his fourth goal of the year when he took the rebound from a Garrett Stafford point shot and fired the puck into the Bulldogs net. Tomas Plihal picked up the other assist on Cleveland's goal at 5:56 of the first period.

Andrei Kostitsyn would even the score 1-1 for the Bulldogs at the 13:53 mark of the second period. Kostitsyn was behind the icing line when he reached out in front of the net and slid the puck under Barons' goaltender Dimitri Patzold. Corey Locke and Duncan Milroy earned assists on Kostitsyn's fourth goal of the season.

The Bulldogs would take a 2-1 lead at 4:01 of the third period. Chris Higgins took advantage of a Barons give away and skated in on a 3-on-0. Higgins made no mistake by scoring his fourth of the season. Trevor Daley had the lone assist on the play.

Bulldogs forward Michael Lambert (14:36) and Marc-Andre Thinel (19:29) would add insurance goals to give Hamilton a 4-1 victory. Steve Ott earned assists on both Lambert and Thinel's goals.

The Bulldogs record versus the Cleveland Barons this season now stands at three wins, one loss and one overtime loss.

The Hamilton Bulldogs next action will take place on Friday, December 10th when they host the Cleveland Barons at Copps Coliseum. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Friday's game is Hamilton Spectator Stuffed Animal Night. When the Bulldogs score their first goal of the game, fans will be encouraged to throw stuffed animals onto the ice. All stuffed animals will be donated to local Hamilton charities.

As well, Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants will be on hand for the game on Friday, December 10th versus the Cleveland Barons. The first 1,800 fans to come through the doors will receive a SpongeBob SquarePants watch.
