February 11, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Orlando Solar Bears News Release
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Solar Bears, proud affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL's Toronto Marlies, will host Heart Health Awareness Weekend with the Greater Orlando Market of the American Heart Association this weekend at the Amway Center, when the teams faces the Atlanta Gladiators on Friday, Feb. 12 and Saturday, Feb. 13, and the Elmira Jackals on Sunday, Feb. 14. The weekend is presented by Florida Hospital.
During all three home games, the Solar Bears will wear "Old Time Hockey" style jerseys to raise awareness for heart health which will be auctioned off during the Solar Bears Season Ticket Member Awards Show. The net proceeds from the jersey auction will support the Solar Bears role as Chair of the 2016 Greater Orlando Heart Walk and will be distributed on the ice after the Solar Bears game against the Florida Everblades on Friday, Apr. 5.
In addition to the jersey auction, the American Heart Association will be the benefactor of the net proceeds from the 50/50 raffle during the game on Feb. 13 and the Chuck-a-Puck fundraiser on Feb. 14, which will help to aid in their mission to fund research and public education regarding critical cardiovascular disease.
"It's with the help of strong community supporters like the Orlando Solar Bears that we are able to raise awareness about our No. 1 health threat, heart disease, and educate Central Floridians that it's largely preventable with lifestyle changes," Greater Orlando American Heart Association Executive Director/Vice President Carrie Miller said.
"We look forward to hosting our fourth Heart Health Awareness Weekend with the American Heart Association and Florida Hospital," Solar Bears President/CEO Jason Siegel said. "Joe Haleski and I - and our entire organization - are extremely excited to be chairing the Heart Walk this coming September."
The Solar Bears continue their fourth season in the ECHL, presented by Auto Justice Attorney Michael T. Gibson, P.A., when they host the Atlanta Gladiators on Friday, Feb. 12 at 7:00 p.m. at the Amway Center.
