Allen Americans News Release
Anchorage, Alaska - The Allen Americans (28-17-2-1) dropped a 5-1 decision to the Alaska Aces (18-24-2-3) on Wednesday night in the first ever meeting between the two teams.
Alaska scored two goals in the first period and then added two in the second frame to jump out to a 4-0 lead last night over the defending Kelly Cup Champions. The only Allen goal came in the final period when Americans leading scorer Chad Costello, fired home his 19th of the season at even strength.
"We had our chances tonight but didn't capitalize on them," said Americans Co-Captain Chad Costello. "We dug ourselves such a deep whole and then spent the rest of the game trying to dig our way out. It's disappointing that we didn't do enough to help out our goalies tonight."
Americans starting goalie Joel Rumpel was lifted in the second period after giving up four goals on nine shots. Peter DiSalvo finished the game for Allen allowing just one goal on 17 shots faced. Aces defenseman Mitch Jones led the way for Alaska with a goal and two helpers to earn the number one star of the game.
Game two of the three-game series will be Friday night at 10:15 pm CST at Sullivan Arena. The loss on Wednesday night extended the Americans road losing streak to three games.
