Solar Bears Earn Point in 3-2 Shootout Loss to Stingrays

March 22, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL)
Orlando Solar Bears News Release

ORLANDO, Fla. - Joe Perry and J.J. Piccinich scored to give the Orlando Solar Bears (31-27-6-2) a 2-0 lead by the midway point of the third period, but the South Carolina Stingrays (41-15-6-1) countered with two quick strikes in a 12-second span to tie the score at 2-2 and prevailed in the shootout by a 3-2 final on Wednesday night at the ARS.com Rink at Amway Center.

The point earned in the shootout pushes the Solar Bears (66 GP, 70 points) to a seven-point lead on the Atlanta Gladiators (66 GP, 63 points) for third place in the South Division. Orlando's magic number to clinch a berth in the 2018 Kelly Cup Playoffs by securing one of the final two playoff spots in the South Division has also been reduced to four points - the Solar Bears can clinch a fourth trip to the postseason as early as Friday, if Orlando wins in the rematch against South Carolina and Jacksonville loses in regulation at Greenville.
