Americans Lose a Tight One to Tulsa 3-2
March 22, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL)
Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, dropped a 3-2 decision to the Tulsa Oilers on Wednesday night at Allen Event Center.
Ryan Tesink scored his 12th and 13th of the season. His third period goal at 6:08 of the third turned out to be the game winner for the Oilers. Dylan Hubbs had the other Tulsa goal.
Jake Paterson was the star of the night for Allen, stopping 49 of 52 Tulsa shots. Paterson suffered the loss despite playing a spectacular game. Americans rookie forward Braylon Shmyr scored his first professional goal in the opening period to even the score at 1-1. Unfortunately, the Americans wouldn't score another goal until late in the final frame when Casey Pierro-Zabotel fired home his 18th of the season to cut the Tulsa lead to one goal. However, the rally fell short as the Americans dropped their third in a row.
The Americans resume the homestand on Friday night when the Kansas City Mavericks come to town for the first of two. Puck drop is 7:05 on Pucks and Paws Night. Call 972-912-1000 for tickets.
They Said It - Jake Paterson
Question: You faced quite a few shots tonight (52, saving 49). What do you guys need to do defensively to get that number down?
Paterson: It's tough to say right now. I haven't looked at the clips yet. We wanted to come out hot with Tulsa right behind us in the standings, and now they are tied with us. Obviously we wanted to come out and have a big game. It's tough that we got the loss, but we'll try to bounce back this weekend.
Question: It seems like you are pretty comfortable when it comes to handling the puck inside and outside of the crease. Is that something you work on in practice? How do you hone a skill like that?
Paterson: I have been working on it a lot. I think it's something goaltenders kinda have to do now; handle the puck and make some plays behind the net. I've been working on it and just trying to help out our defense.
Question: Now that you are a little bit more acclimated with the team here in Allen, how does it feel to be a part of the club?
Paterson: Yeah, it's been good. Obviously it's a really good organization. They have a history of winning here, so coming here you can tell right away that they want to win. So down the stretch it'll be important to button down and make a push for the playoffs.
