Zborovskiy Returns from AHL Call-Up
March 22, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, announced that defenseman Sergey Zborovskiy has been reassigned to the club by the New York Rangers from the Hartford Wolf Pack. Zborovskiy has split time between Greenville and Hartford this season, playing 49 games in his rookie season.
The first-year skater is returning from his second AHL call-up of the season. In the blue liner's stint with the Wolf Pack, he played six games and posted a plus-1 rating. Zborovskiy has played 10 AHL games this season in addition to 39 games with the Swamp Rabbits in the ECHL. In his time with Greenville, the defenseman has notched 17 points (5G, 12A). Three of his five goals came on the power play, third most by a rookie defender in the league and third most on the Swamp Rabbits roster.
The Russian born skater notched his first pro goal just two games into the season and produced two separate multi-point games. Before turning pro, Zborovskiy played three seasons for the Regina Pats in the WHL. In his final year, he led the WHL with a plus-72 rating and collected 40 points (7G, 33A) in 63 games. The 6-foot-4 defenseman was also named a WHL Second Team All-Star. In three seasons and 198 games, he posted 84 points (19G, 66A) with the Pats and a plus-102 rating, the best in franchise history.
After his rookie season in the WHL, Zborovskiy selected by the New York Rangers in the third round, with the 79th pick, in the 2015 NHL Draft. He also helped his country secure a Bronze Medal at the 2017 World Junior Championships.
Zborovskiy rejoins the Swamp Rabbits as the club prepares for a pair of games against the Jacksonville Icemen. Greenville's weekend begins on Friday with Golf Night presented by Golf for Greenville, followed by Saturday's Pucks & Paws / Craft Beer Night at 7 p.m.
