Solar Bears Come up One Goal Short in 3-2 Loss to Wings

Orlando, FL - The Solar Bears fired 19 shots in the third period but came up one goal short as they fell by a 3-2 score to the Kalamazoo Wings in front of 9,036 fans at the Amway Center on Saturday night.

Kalamazoo broke a scoreless tie late in the first period. with 29 seconds left in the frame, RW Chris Lawrence intercepted a clearing attempt at the blue line and moved a pass to C Matt Caria who snapped the puck off the crossbar and into the back of the net as the Wings took a 1-0 lead into the intermission. G Christopher Gibson stopped 18 of the 19 shots he faced in the period.

After the Orlando Solar Bears killed off a 5-on-3 power play chance to start the second frame, F Jake Hauswirth evened up the scoring. D Zachary Yuen fired the puck around the boards and F Zach Harrison settled the puck to Hauswirth who slipped a shot just under the pads of G Joel Martin at 8:08 of the second stanza. Kalamazoo regained the lead at 13:44 when F Yannick Veilleux found his own rebound a slid a shot inside the right post to put the Wings up 2-1. F Mickey Lang answered back for the Solar Bears when he picked a rebound off the end boards and slapped a shot just under the crossbar for a power play goal at 15:56, sending the contest tied 2-2 into the final frame.

The Wings once again grabbed a lead with a strike 3:25 into the third. F Matt Firman moved the puck out from behind the net and RW Ryan Del Monte snapped the puck through traffic and past Gibson to put Kalamazoo up 3-2. The Solar Bears made a late push in the third period and fired 19 shots on goal, but could not solve Martin as Orlando fell by the final 3-2 score.
