Toledo, OH: Scott Arnold's multipoint game powered the Road Warriors past the Toledo Walleye for a 3-1 win on Saturday night.
The Road Warriors struck first with a goal from Josh Nicholls who scored his tenth of the year and continued his point streak to six games. The rookie forward received a pass from Lindsay Sparks on the back door to give Greenville a 1-0 lead heading into the second period. The Road Warriors outshot Toledo 9-8 in the period.
The second period did not feature many scoring chances but was a physical frame. Only 13 shots were put on goal for both teams. Toledo outshot the Road Warriors with eight on Road Warriors' goaltender, Jason Missiaen. With just 2:38 left in the second period, Kyle Rogers tied the game on a one-timer for his 12th of the year. Maxim Shalunov and Aaron Clarke assisted on the goal to tie the game at one heading into the third period.
Within the first seven minutes of the third period, Scott Arnold was disrupted on a breakaway which paved way for a penalty shot. The forward converted for his 15th of the year to give the Road Warriors a 2-1 lead. Four minutes later, Emerson Clark scored on a rebound opportunity for his fourth of the season to extend Greenville's lead to 3-1. Clark's goal was assisted by Arnold who initially shot the puck from the corner. The Road Warriors held the lead until the final horn despite a last minute rush from Toledo with the goaltender pulled. Missiaen finished the game with 22 saves to improve his record to 10-3-1.
