Alaska Aces News Release
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - Gerald Coleman made 28 saves while Tyler Mosienko's third period power play goal stood as the game winner to lift the Alaska Aces (35-15-4, 74 points) to a 2-1 victory over the Utah Grizzlies before a crowd of 6,669 at Maverik Center on Friday.
The Aces handed Utah their sixth regulation loss in 31 games since Christmas and went 2-of-6 on the power play. They also improved to 6-1-0 in the head to head series and 12-8-3 on the road. Igor Bobkov, outdueled by Coleman, took the loss with 22 saves.
Despite being outshot 9-3 in the opening minutes, the Aces earned several good looks at the Utah net including a two-on-none chance that Sivak slammed off the right post, nearly converting Nick Mazzolini's pass. Brett Findlay's power play goal opened the scoring at 15:10 of the when he finished Andy Taranto's centering feed from the right corner, blocker side of Bobkov.
Coleman and Bobkov took over in the second period and Coleman kept the lead intact with eight saves, including a breakaway stop on Mathieu Aubin with the left pad.
Mosienko gave the Aces a 2-0 cushion with their second power play goal of the night at 6:58 of the third period, finishing a wrister inside the post on Bobkov following a set-up by Brad Richard and Mazzolini.
Utah, pressed into desperation in the closing minutes, earned their best scoring chance on a shorthanded break by Joseph Cramarossa which Coleman stopped with the pads.
Jamie MacQueen spoiled Coleman's shutout bid with 1:50 left in regulation on an extra attacker situation, drawing Utah to a 2-1 deficit. MacQueen finished Phil Mangan's centering pass from the boards with a one-timer for his 18th goal.
Utah failed to earn further high-grade scoring chances for the remainder of the game, sealing the Aces win.
