March 1, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers brought a three-game winning streak home to a crowd of over 3,000 fans at WesBanco Arena on Saturday night. Unfortunately, they were unable to extend that streak, as Reading scored four unanswered goals, erasing Max MacKay's opening goal, as the Royals defeated the Nailers, 4-1.

The first period was a tale of two halves, as the Nailers opened the scoring, while holding a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal, before the Royals took control in the second half, scoring twice, while outshooting Wheeling, 8-2. The Nailers' marker came at the 9:32 mark, while the team was playing on the man advantage. Carter Rowney slipped a pass to Max MacKay in the slot, where MacKay ripped a wrist shot into the top-left corner of the goal. A little less than three minutes later, Reading tied the game with a power play goal, when Domenic Monardo put back a rebound of Josh Brittain's shot from the bottom of the left circle. Brittain gave the Royals the lead with 3:09 remaining, when he also scored off of a rebound, dragging Sean Wiles' initial shot to his backhand, and around the left side of Kieran Millan.

Neither team found the net in the second period, but early in the third, the Royals extended their lead. Bryant Molle kept the play alive at the left point, setting up Jesse Todd, who let a wrist shot go. Millan made the save, but the rebound came free to Ethan Cox, who scored the insurance marker. Matt Campanale added one more goal with 8:44 remaining, when he worked his way into the slot, scoring with a forehand shot for a 4-1 final.

Riley Gill picked up the win for Reading, making 27 saves on 28 shots. Kieran Millan was on the other side of the equation for Wheeling, stopping 24 of the 28 shots he faced.

The Nailers will play host to the Cincinnati Cyclones on Sunday afternoon at 3:00.
