
Stingrays Take Down Jackals in Shootout 2-1

Elmira, NY - Forward Nick Larson netted a goal and the shootout-winning marker to help guide the South Carolina Stingrays (34-16-2-3) over the Elmira Jackals (20-27-2-4) 2-1 at First Arena Saturday evening.
The Jackals kicked off the scoring 1:25 into the game when forward Danny Hobbs slipped a centering pass past the left pad of Stingrays netminder Allen York (W, 28 saves on 29 shots) from the top of the crease. Larson tied the contest at 12:58 rifling a shot under the blocker of goaltender Neil Conway (SOL, 39 saves on 40 shots) off the top of the right-wing circle. Forward Peter Boyd picked up the lone assist.
In the second and third periods, the Stingrays outshot the Jackals 24-13, but could not find an additional tally. Elmira ripped eight shots on York in the five-minute overtime stanza to the Stingrays' three to setup an exciting shootout. Forwards Jack Downing, Wayne Simpson and Dale Mitchell scored for the Stingrays in the first three rounds and Larson buried the game-winning tally in the first round of sudden death to take the victory. The Stingrays ended the contest 0-for-3 on the power play while the Jackals went 0-for-2.
The Stingrays wrap up their Northeast swing of a season-long six-game road trip tomorrow, Sunday March 2 at 4:05 p.m. with a rematch against the Jackals at First Arena. The Stingrays jump to the Midwest to visit the Toledo Walleye in Toledo, Ohio on Wednesday, March 5 at 7:15 p.m. at the Huntington Center and move over to Kalamazoo, Michigan to take on the Kalamazoo Wings on Friday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Wings Stadium. The road trip closes on Friday, March 14 against the Gwinnett Gladiators at The Arena at Gwinnett Center at 7:05 p.m. in Duluth, Georgia.
The Stingrays return to the North Charleston Coliseum on Saturday, March 15 to celebrate Lowcountry Food Bank Night against the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05 p.m. Friday, March 21 is Family Four Pack Friday with the Stingrays! Grab four tickets, four hotdogs, four sodas and large popcorn for $55 at the Coliseum Box Office and watch the Stingrays battle the Orlando Solar Bears at 7:05 p.m. at the Coliseum. College and military tickets are $5 at the Box Office with proper ID!
