WET WEDNESDAY / GAME SHOW NIGHT
TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: After spending the last four games away from home, the Cyclones finally return to U.S. Bank Arena tonight in search of revenge against the Evansville IceMen. In a defensive battle last night, the IceMen prevailed in the shootout by a 2-1 final score - becoming just the third time this year Cincy has been beaten in a game lasting longer than 60 minutes. On the year, the Clones own a 4-2-0-1 record against their Hoosier state foes and have taken seven of the nine all-time meetings at 100 Broadway.
TONIGHT'S PROMOTION: PINK IN THE RINK NIGHT BENEFITING PINK RIBBON GIRLS - The ice will be painted pink, plus, the Cyclones wear specialty jerseys that will get auctioned off immediately after the game to benefit Pink Ribbon Girls. Hiatt's Florist will hand out pink carnations to the first 1,000 female fans in attendance!
SCOUTING THE ICEMEN: Jeff Pyle's club picked up two big points in the Eastern Conference and now sit just two points back of eighth-place Fort Wayne. A team that ranks toward the bottom of the league in team defense, they were able to hold their opponent to one goal or less for just the fifth time in the calendar year. Jeremy Langlois, who notched an assist last night in the win, leads the IceMen with 47 points (15 goals, 32 assists). Matt Schepke, the only Evansville player to score in regulation in the Friday night win, follows closely with 44 tallies (20 goals, 24 assists) in 52 tilts. Goaltender Mike Clemente snapped his four-game losing skid by posting 31 saves to earn his 15th victory of the season. Overall this year, he is 15-10-0-4 with a 2.50 goals-against average. Garrett Bartus, meanwhile, has amassed a 7-5-3-2 record with a 3.00 GAA but has lost both of his head-to-head meetings with Cincinnati.
LAST HEAD-TO-HEAD MEETING: FEBRUARY 28, 2014: A tremendous goaltending performance was turned in by both sides, however, the IceMen prevailed 2-1 in a shootout over the Cyclones in front of 6,316 at Ford Center. It was just the third time this year that Cincinnati had been beaten in a game that went beyond 60 minutes.
Shutting the Door: When the Cyclones take a lead into the third period, they are nearly impossible to beat. In such situations, they've earned a 22-0-1 record this season. Their win totals are fourth most in the ECHL and third in the Eastern Conference.
Haze of Glory: Jonathan Hazen has quickly moved up the Cyclones scoring leaderboard. He ranks second on the team with 37 points in 46 games which is already a career high. He has posted tallies in eight of his last nine 174 games. The Clones are 11-1 in games that he lights the lamp.
