BELOIT, Wis. -- The Snappers split a doubleheader Tuesday with the Quad Cities River Bandits, winning the first game 12-6 and losing the second 6-5. The Snappers split the four-game series against the River Bandits, ending their eight-game homestand with a 3-5 record.

GAME ONE: The Snappers used a strong offensive effort and capitalized on some key River Bandit's miscues to win 12-6. Lance Ray led the offense going 3-for-4 with a homerun, while Andrew Leer delivered the big blow with a grand slam in a seven-run fifth inning. The River Bandits had three errors in the game, which led to two unearned runs.

Snapper's starter A.J. Achter had a rough outing, giving up five earned runs on nine hits in three innings pitched. Even though the River Bandit's leadoff hitters reached base in each inning, strong Snappers relief pitching from Bart Carter and Jose Gonzalez held the River Bandits scoreless the remainder of the game.

River Bandit's starter Jake Copeland had a tough night. The Snappers roughed up Copeland for eight earned runs on six hits, which raised his season ERA from 3.10 to 4.04. The River Bandits were led on offense by second baseman Kolten Wong, who finished the game 3-for-4. Jonathan Rodriguez also had three hits, including a two-run homerun.

The "Brody Trophy Player of the Game" goes to Lance Ray, who had a big game going 3-for-4 with a homerun.

GAME TWO: Homeruns by River Bandit's catcher Geoff Klein and second baseman Kolten Wong were too much for the Snappers to rally back from as they fell 6-5 in the second game of the doubleheader. Pedro Guerra, who was making his first appearance for the Snappers after being called up from Rookie League Elizabethton on Aug. 5, was hit hard giving up six earned runs in four innings. After wiggling out of a first inning jam where he had runners on first and second with nobody out, Guerra wasn't so lucky in the second inning when he gave up a three-run homerun to Klein. Kolten Wong added a two-run homerun in the fourth inning, which dug the Snappers in a 5-2 deficit. Wong finished the night 3-for-4 with two RBI.

The Snappers offense showed flashes of breaking out again, tagging River Bandits starter Drew Benes and relief pitcher Justin Edwards for five earned runs on six hits over the first five innings. However, strong relief efforts from Aldan Lucas and Iden Rosario held the Snappers at bay for the final two innings. Second baseman Tyler Grimes was impressive going 2-for-3 with a solo homerun.

The "Brody Trophy Player of the Game" goes to Snapper's relief pitcher Sam Spangler, who kept the team in the game with three innings of scoreless relief.

The Snappers will now hit the road for three games to square off against their instate rival, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. They return home Saturday, August 13 to face the Midwest League Western Division First-Half Champions the Burlington Bees. Saturday's game is 80's night at Pohlman Field. Fans are urged to wear their favorite 80's themed apparel as we will feature tunes from this great decade all game long. After the game, the Snappers will be showcasing another fireworks show, which is sponsored by Christofferson Moving and Storage. In celebration of the night, the show will be set to an 80's theme.

The Beloit Snappers are a member of the Midwest League and a Class-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. For ticket information, contact the Snappers office at 608-362-2272 or visit the website at www.snappersbaseball.com.
