Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Tyler Stubblefield's two-run single highlighted a three-run fifth inning on Tuesday afternoon, as the Fort Wayne TinCaps snapped a 2-2 tie, and went on to post a 6-5 win over the Lansing Lugnuts at Parkview Field.
Stubblefield came to the plate with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the fifth, and singled up the middle on a 1-2 pitch off Lansing relief pitcher Dustin Antolin, scoring Luis Domoromo and Connor Powers to give Fort Wayne a 4-2 lead.
An infield ground out later in the inning produced another run to give the TinCaps a 5-2 advantage.
Bryson Namba hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to bring the Lugnuts to within 5-3.
Fort Wayne stretched the lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, when B.J. Guinn walked with bases loaded, bringing in Powers from third base.
The run proved to be crucial, as Lansing scored twice in the top of the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Namba, and a run-producing single by Luis Hurtado to pull to within a run at 6-5.
TinCap closer Kevin Quackenbush came in from the bullpen to quash the Lugnut rally, then retired the side in order in the ninth to preserve the victory, collecting his fourth save in as many save opportunities since joining the team.
Robert Lara (1-1) pitched a scoreless inning in relief of starting pitcher Adys Portillo, and gained credit for the win, while Antolin (1-1) suffered the loss.
Having taken three out of four from Lansing, Fort Wayne now awaits the arrival of the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Wednesday night for the start of a three-game series.
RHP Zach Cates (3-7, 4.53) will start for the TinCaps, while LHP Enny Romero (2-5, 4.94) will go for Bowling Green.
