South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
South Bend, IN - Jhoan Pimentel hit a grand slam as his first professional home run to lead the South Bend Silver Hawks to a 5-4 game one victory on Tuesday afternoon, but the Bowling Green Hot Rods rallied for a 4-3 win in game two as the squads split the doubleheader at Coveleski Stadium.
Down 2-0 early, the Silver Hawks loaded the bases against Jason McEachern (LP, 1-2) in the bottom of the second inning of game one. Pimentel stepped to the plate, having never hit a home run since signing with the Diamondbacks organization in 2006. That all changed with one swing of the bat as the grand slam sailed over the left field fence for the 4-2 lead.
Niko Gallego later added a RBI single as part of the five-run inning, helping J.R. Bradley (WP, 5-13) to his fifth win of the year. Eury De La Rosa (SV, 5) pitched two scoreless innings to wrap up the game one victory.
In almost a complete reverse of game one, the Silver Hawks built the early lead in game two only to see the Hot Rods rally with a big inning. Ramon Castillo homered to help South Bend go up 3-0, but after four hitless innings, Patrick Schuster (LP, 6-4) couldn't get through the fifth. The South Bend lefty allowed four runs on three hits and two walks with Bowling Green taking the 4-3 lead.
Chris Rearick (WP, 6-1) made the lead hold up with three scoreless innings of relief, earning his sixth win of the season.
Roberto Ortiz had a double in game one, but went hitless in game two as his hitting streak closes at 12 games - the second longest streak on the team this season.
The Silver Hawks continue the home stand and welcome in the Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays) on Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM Eastern Time. RHP Tyler Green (3-7, 5.36 ERA) will start for South Bend while Lansing counters with LHP Sean Nolin (2-3, 3.76 ERA). Pre-game coverage begins at 6:40 PM Eastern Time on www.sportsjuice.com and www.silverhawks.com.
