Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - The Kane County Cougars and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers each tossed a shutout on Tuesday, as the clubs split a doubleheader and, as a result, a four-game series at Elfstrom Stadium. The Cougars took Game 1, 1-0, and then fell, 5-0, in Game 2. They now are 9-6 against the Rattlers this season. They also have a three-game lead for the top playoff spot in the Western Division with 26 games remaining in the regular season.
In Game 1, Leondy Perez (5-11) picked up his third straight win and quality start. In that span, he has given up no earned runs over 19 2/3 innings. Tuesday he pitched six innings of four-hit ball with two strikeouts for the victory, and Nick Rogers worked out of a first-and-third, one-out jam in the seventh to notch his fifth save. Brett Eibner went 2-for-3 with two doubles, including a run-scoring shot in the first off Brooks Hall (5-4) that accounted for the game's only run.
Then in Game 2, the Cougars totaled just one hit against Brian Garman (3-2) and Dan Britt. Jake Kuebler's infield single in the second inning and walks to Geulin Beltre and Orlando Calixte were all the Cougars could muster, and their final 16 batters went down consecutively. Santiago Garrido (1-4) suffered the loss. He gave up two first-inning runs, as the first five batters reached against him. Garrido lasted four innings, Cole White yielded one run in the fifth and Jason Mitchell gave up two in the sixth for the 5-0 final.
The Cougars (26-18, 54-59) continue their seven-game home stand Wednesday night at 6:30 with the opener of a three-game set against the Peoria Chiefs (18-25, 51-62).
