June 6, 2008 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release
The Snappers scored seven unanswered runs Friday night to defeat the Kane County Cougars by a final of 8-4. Brian Kirwan picked up his fourth win of the season, going six innings and allowing four runs off seven hits.
Ben Revere got things rolling for the Snappers early, scoring the first run of the game on a ground ball off the bat of Garrett Olson. Olson grounded into a 6-4-3 double play with no outs, but allowed Revere to score from third to take a 1-0 lead.
Kane County bounced right back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning. The Cougars got their four runs on two, two-run homers from Greg Dowling and Corey Brown. However, the four runs would be all that they would score on the night.
Steve Singleton delivered a home run of his own in the top of the second inning off Kane County's Scott Deal. Singleton's home run, which made it a 4-2 ballgame, came with one out and nobody on.
Beloit tied the game at four with two more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Ramon Santana cracked a two-run single to center, driving home Ozzie Lewis and Steve Singleton.
Last night's hero, Chris Parmelee, then gave the Snaps the lead with a three-run bomb to center field in the top of the fifth. Parmelee's homer came with Chris Cates and Garrett Olson on base. Chris' blast made it a 7-4 Beloit lead after four and a half innings.
The Snappers would add one more in the top of the seventh inning off the bat of Ozzie Lewis. Lewis blasted a two-out, RBI-double to right field to put Beloit up 8-4. Ozzie's double allowed Chris Parmelee to score from first base.
That would be more than enough for Beloit's bullpen as Charles Nolte and Spencer Steedley pitched the final three innings of the game without allowing a run.
Steedley picked up the final out of the game to claim his seventh save of the season and give the Snaps the 8-4 win.
Chris Cates went 3 for 5 with a double and a run scored for the Snappers who improved to 33-28 on the season.
