Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

The Quad Cities River Bandits let a late lead slip away and lost in extra innings for the second consecutive night on Friday, as their playoff aspirations took another hit in a 6-5, 11-inning loss to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium.

Quad Cities (30-29) got another stellar outing from Nick Additon, who put up four more shutout frames to stretch his scoreless innings streak to 26 while his hitless innings streak ended at 13. Wisconsin (27-30) won their fifth consecutive game, tying the score on a dropped strike three in the bottom of the ninth before walking off with the win in 11.

The Timber Rattlers trailed 5-4 heading into the bottom of the ninth. After Gavin Dickey singled and Denny Almonte walked with one out, a passed ball moved the runners to second and third and prompted reliever Pete Parise to intentionally walk Calvin Beamon and load the bases. Parise registered a clutch strikeout against pinch-hitter Scott Robinson for the second out of the frame, but the count ran full to the next batter, Maximo Mendez. On a 3-2 pitch Parise got Mendez to swing and miss at a ball in the dirt, but the wild pitch snuck by the catcher and allowed Mendez to race to first, while Dickey scored from third to even the score at 5-5.

In the bottom of the 11th, Wisconsin picked up the win against Matt Spade. The River Bandits' left-handed reliever allowed a single by Dickey to open the frame while Almonte's double moved the runner to third. After another intentional walk to Beamon, Blake Ochoa worked the count full before singling through the left side to win the game, 6-5.

That made a winner out of Justin Souza (2-2), who struck out three during a perfect top of the 11th inning. Spade (0-2) suffered the loss, facing four batters without recording an out in his second appearance in as many nights.

With the loss, Quad Cities finished play on Friday 4.5 games behind Kane County and two games behind Beloit in the race for the first-half Western Division Wild Card spot with just nine games remaining until the All-Star break.

The River Bandits trailed most of the ballgame before coming from behind to take the lead in the eighth. Down 4-2, Matt Arburr sparked the comeback by looping an 0-2 pitch into left field for a one-out single. Nick Peoples drew a walk and then Bolivar slugged his first homer of the year to left, giving Quad Cities a 5-4 advantage on the three-run homer.

UP NEXT: The River Bandits are in the midst of an eight-game road trip that continues on Saturday with game three of a four-game series in Wisconsin against the Timber Rattlers. They return to Davenport on Monday for a seven-game homestand against Peoria and Beloit that stretches into the All-Star break. That means Hall of Famer and Peoria Chiefs' manager Ryne Sandberg returns to Modern Woodmen Park for Incredible Hulk Night on a Margarita Monday! The series continues with Thrivent Financial Night on a Two-for-Tuesday, while this homestand's installment of Wacky WINS-day will feature a stadium-wide game of Baseball Bingo and free Kenny Chesney tickets! A Thirst-day Thursday presented by the Quad Cities CW and Rock 104.9's Dave & Darren rounds out the series before the River Bandits welcome in the Beloit Snappers for a three-game set starting Friday, as both teams battle for a first-half playoff berth. Bandit Wear featuring the new team name and logo is currently available by visiting the Modern Woodmen Park team store, and season ticket packages, mini-packages, and the popular You-Pick-10 Plan are on sale at the park or by calling (563) 3-BANDITS!
