Burlington Bees News Release

Cedar Rapids, IA (June 6, 2008) - The Burlington Bees outhit the Cedar Rapids Kernals Friday night but left 12 runners on base and lost 6-4. The Bees scored three runs in the ninth and had the tying run on base but came up short in the comeback attempt.

The Bees scored the first run of the ballgame in the top of the fourth inning. With one out, Jamar Walton hit a single up the middle and moved to second when Nick Van Stratten was hit by a pitch. Alwin Perez then hit an RBI double where Walton scored but Van Stratten was thrown out at home.

The Bees did not hold on to the 1-0 lead for very long. The Kernals answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game. That began a stretch of three consecutive innings where the Kernals scored runs. After tying the ballgame in the fourth, they scored five more runs in the next two innings to take a 6-1 lead.

The Bees did make some noise in the ninth inning. Ryan Eigsti and Adrian Ortiz led the inning off with walks and then scored on a David Lough double. Lough moved to third on a ground-out and then scored on a Clint Robinson two-out single. That was as close as the Bees would get as Eddie McKiernan came into the ballgame for Cedar Rapids and finished it out. The Bees did leave the potential tying run on base.

Matt Mitchell took the loss for the Bees. In 5.1 innings, he allowed five runs, four of which were earned, on eight hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Joe Augustine allowed 1 run in 2.2 innings of work.

The Bees outhit the Kernals 13-12 but left 12 runners on base. Jamar Walton and David Lough had three hits while Adrian Ortiz and Clint Robinson each had two.

The Bees and Kernals continue the series Saturday night at Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00. Alex Caldera is the scheduled starter for the Bees. The Game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com. The Bees return home to Community Field for their final home series before the All-Star break on June 9th as they will begin a four-game series against Wisconsin.
