Beloit Sky Carp News Release
After winning their first three games of the season, the Snappers have cooled off and lost every game since. Clinton got on the board first with a Craig Gentry home run in the bottom of the first inning. Gentry's first home run of the season made it a 1-0 Clinton lead after one.
Beloit battled back in the bottom of the fourth inning scoring two runs of their own. Chris Parmelee and Danny Valencia had back to back doubles and Danny Berg had a single to make it 2-1 Snappers after three and a half.
The LumberKings fired right back in the bottom of the fourth inning with two more runs. Great Gerrard led off with a double and was later hit home by a double off the bat of John Whittleman. Mauro Gomez, who was earlier hit by a pitch, scored next on an RBI groundout by Truan Mehl. Truan's RBI made it a 3-2 Clinton lead.
The Snappers threatened in the top of the ninth inning after a leadoff single by Garrett Olson. Beloit, however, proceeded to fly out, strike out, and ground out, stranding Olson on first.
Alex Burnett pitched four innings of three run, six hit baseball. His efforts, however, resulted in his first loss of the season. The Snappers fell to 3-3 on the year with the loss.
Snappers Lose In Extras
4/14/2007- The Snappers lost a heart-breaker in ten innings Saturday night. After fighting back to tie the game at 1-1, the Snappers were unable to get anything going offensively. Clinton scored in the bottom of the tenth inning to win 2-1. Clinton's win was their second straight over the Snappers.
Starter, Jeff Manship, pitched five and two third's strong innings allowing only one run off five hits. Manship also struck out ten LumberKings.
Streak Ended
4/13/2007- The Snappers' three game winning streak ended at the hands of the LumberKings. Starter, Adam Hawes, had a strong outing going five innings while only allowing two runs off five hits. Hawes, however, took the loss for the Snappers as they dropped to 3-1 on the season.
Brian Dinkelman had a big day going two for four with a triple and a home run. It was his first of both of the season
Snappy Spotted Again
Snappy has been spotted again. This time he was seen at "Meet the Team Night" last Tuesday night. Snappy was out and about at Central Christian Church on April 3rd for the annual welcome dinner for the Snappers.
Joseph Laws, from Beloit, was the lucky spotter. Laws shouted "Snapper-tastic" and won two free tickets to a Snappers' home game.
Snappy was unreachable, but the Snappers' staff was able to catch up with Laws.
"Fear the Turtle," said Joseph.
Remember fans, anytime you see Snappy outside of Pohlman Field, run up to him and shout "Snapper-tastic." Snappy will have no choice but to surrender two FREE tickets to a Snappers' home game. Make sure you are the first to spot him, however, because he only carries two tickets on him at a time.
Season Tickets, Group Discounts, and Picnic Packages are still available. Contact a Snappers' Representative at 608-362-2272, www.snappersbaseball.com, or at Pohlman Field located at 2301 Skyline Dr. in Beloit for more information.
33 more days until former Chicago Cub and new Peoria Chiefs' manager, Ryne Sandberg, comes to Beloit! Sandberg and his Chiefs will take on the Snappers on May 19-20 and again June 21-24. Tickets are going fast!!!
