Dayton Dragons News Release

Fort Wayne, IN - For the sixth time in seven games, the Dayton Dragons (7-0) put double digits in the hits column as they defeated the Fort Wayne Wizards (2-5) by the score of 8-4 on Monday evening at Memorial Stadium. The Dragons pounded out 10 hits, including a three-run home run by left-fielder Chris Heisey, to sweep the series and remain perfect on the season.

Heisey bats ninth in the Dragons lineup, but you'd never know it by the way he's been swinging the bat. Heisey and teammate Drew Stubbs are the only Dragons to record at least one hit in all seven games of 2007. On Monday night, Heisey doubled and scored a run in the third inning, and then connected for the three-run homer to deep left as part of a four run fourth inning off Fort Wayne starter Aaron Breit (LP, 0-2). With the two hits, Heisey raised his average to .370 and now leads the Dragons with seven RBI.

Justin Turner picked up three hits to help the Dragons offensive output, while Stubbs, Chris Valaika, and Jason Louwsma joined Turner and Heisey with runs batted in.

The Dragons once again got another solid performance from a starting pitcher as Jordan Smith (WP, 1-0) allowed just one run on two hits in his 5.0 innings of work. Lee Tabor (ND) allowed three runs, but only one earned in his two innings of relief. Misael DeJesus (ND) and Jose Rojas (ND) closed the door in the 8 th and 9th innings respectively to preserve both the victory and the perfect season for the Miami Valley's team.

Fort Wayne used a home run from Cedric Hunter and a couple of sacrifice flies to keep the game relatively close, but the Dragons winning streak could not be stopped.

The Dragons open up an eight game home stand at Fifth Third Field on Tuesday night beginning with a four game series against the Swing of the Quad Cities, the MWL affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. RHP Daryl Thompson (1-0, 1.80 ERA) will start for the Dragons, while the Swing have not announced a starting pitcher. 1410 ESPN Radio will carry the game live beginning with the pre game show at 6:30 PM. Tuesday's first pitch is scheduled for 7 PM. The game will also be carried live on the internet via All-In Broadcasting at www.daytondragons.com.
