DAYTON , OH - The Dayton Dragons, in conjunction with Major and Minor League Baseball, will honor Jackie Robinson and his impact on the sport of baseball with a special tribute during the game against the Swing of the Quad Cities on Tuesday, April 17 th at Fifth Third Field.

Jackie Robinson broke baseball's color barrier 60 years ago on April 15, 1947 when he debuted for the Brooklyn Dodgers. The future Hall-of-Famer was rewarded for his play on the field and his courage off the field with the 1947 Rookie of the Year and MVP awards.

On the 50th anniversary of Robinson's breaking of the color barrier in 1997, his uniform number of 42 was retired throughout all of baseball. This year, for the 60th anniversary, Cincinnati Reds outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. asked for, and was granted permission, to wear Robinson's number to commemorate the day. Commissioner Bud Selig then offered the tribute to players throughout the majors, many of whom were honored to wear the number 42 for just one day.

The Dragons were on the road on Jackie Robinson Day on April 15th, but will celebrate with the fans in the Miami Valley when the team returns home on Tuesday, April 17th to begin an eight game home stand.

"Jackie Robinson had a profound impact on the game of baseball," said Dragons President Robert Murphy . "We are thrilled to be able to join Minor League and Major League Baseball in celebrating the life and career of a true baseball legend."

On April 17th at Fifth Third Field, fans will receive a commemorative program celebrating Jackie Robinson Day. During the game, a video will be played to honor Jackie Robinson.
