Snappers Fall 6-1, Lose Fourth Straight
August 3, 2011 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, WI - The Snappers started out their second game of their current eight-game homestand with a run in the second inning thanks to an RBI single from Daniel Ortiz that scored Jairo Perez, who doubled to start the inning. Unfortunately, that would be the only offense for the Snappers as the Cougars scored three in the third and never looked back.
Starting pitcher, A.J. Achter threw very well for the Snappers (17-21) tonight as he only allowed one earned run on four hits over his six innings pitched. He suffered his third loss of the season to bring his record to 3-5 and lowered his ERA from 4.40 to 4.14. The Snappers defense would commit another two errors tonight. In the last three games combined, they've committed eight errors.
Jairo Perez was the shining spot for the Snappers on the night as he collected three hits (3-for-4) including his 12th and 13th doubles on the season. His season batting average is now .360. With the loss, the Snappers find themselves 6.5 games out of first place in the Midwest League Western Division and only two games out of a wild card playoff spot.
The Cougars (23-15) did most of their damage in two innings. In the third they scored three runs thanks to a Chelsor Cutherbert RBI double and Orlando Calixte would ground into a three-base throwing error by Perez that scored Brian Fletcher and Cutherbert. In the seventh inning, they would tack on two insurance runs off of Snappers reliever Blayne Weller when Brett Eibner would double to right field to score two runs. Both Eibner (2-for-4, 2 2B, 2 RBI) and Juan Graterol (2-for-3) had multi-hit games for Kane County.
The "Brodie Trophy Player of the Game," goes to Jairo Perez who finished 3-for-4 tonight with two doubles. The Minnesota Twins Organization Player of the Month for June is hitting .360 this season with 13 doubles, 11 HR and 46 RBI.
The Snappers and Cougars continue their four-game series at Pohlman Field tomorrow night at 7:00pm. Thursdays at the ballpark are Ticket and T-shirt Thursday as well as Horny Goat Brewing Company Giveaway Night. Fans can purchase a general admission ticket and get a Snappers logo t-shirt for just $10. Any fan (21 and older) can be entered in a drawing to win a $50 gift card to the Horny Goat Brewing Company Pub in Milwaukee, WI when they purchase ANY Horny Goat beer at the ballpark.
The Beloit Snappers are a member of the Midwest League and a Class-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. For ticket information, contact the Snappers office at 608-362-2272 or visit the website at www.snappersbaseball.com.
