Acosta Homers In Return To Spark Hot Rods Win

Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - In his first game since returning to Bowling Green, catcher Mayo Acosta belted a three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning to spark the Hot Rods (20-18, 61-47) to an 8-4 win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps (19-19, 49-58) on Wednesday night at Bowling Green Ballpark. The two-out blast was one of many two-out hits to push the Hot Rods to a perfect 5-0 on their seven-game home stand heading into Thursday.
Acosta's blast broke a scoreless tie for starting pitcher Eliazer Suero (W; 7-4). Robby Price singled with one out, two batters later Nick Schwaner single to set up Acosta. The catcher hit a 2-2 pitch to right field for a three-run shot and a 3-0 lead.
Two innings later, still facing Fort Wayne starter Adys Portillo (L; 2-11), Steve Tinoco started a four-run frame with a one-out single to left-center. After Tinoco moved to third, Acosta followed with a walk and then stole second base to leave runners at second and third. With two outs, Kevin Kiermaier and Cody Rogers then delivered consecutive run-scoring infield singles for a 5-0 lead. Derek Dietrich capped the frame with a two-run double to pad the lead at 7-0.
Suero left the game after allowing two runs in the fifth, the only two he surrendered over five innings. He gave way to Steve Hiscock, who allowed two more with two outs in the sixth to cut the Hot Rods lead down to 7-4.
In the eighth, Tinoco figured into one more rally to cap the scoring. With two outs and Julio Cedeno standing at second with a double, Tinoco filled the gap in right-center with a two-base hit for a four-run margin at 8-4.
All eight runs for the Hot Rods came with two outs in the game as they pushed their winning streak to five straight during this home stand. They are now 6-3 against Fort Wayne on the year, 4-2 against the TinCaps at home.
The Hot Rods host game three with the TinCaps (San Diego Padres) Thursday night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 PM. The Hot Rods celebrate the King of Pop with Michael Jackson Tribute Night, featuring a guest performance from the "Amazing Christopher." This musical extravaganza - one of the most unique promotions of the season - accompanies Thrifty Thursday, which features $2 food and drink specials. For tickets, visit www.bghotrods.com.
