Lawrence and Lugnuts Even Series
August 3, 2011 - Midwest League (MWL1)
South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
Lansing, MI - For the second time in the last three games, the South Bend Silver Hawks saw an opposing pitcher go the distance. The latest example of pitching dominance came from Lansing's Casey Lawrence (WP, 9-8) as he held the Hawks to four hits in a 6-1 Lugnuts victory.
Lawrence allowed only four singles on the night, scattering the hits over three different innings. He struck out three and didn't walk anyone in picking up his second win this year against South Bend and his ninth win overall.
Silver Hawks starter J.R. Bradley (LP, 4-13) did not fare as well, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits in four innings. He suffered his 13th loss of the season - most in the Midwest League - and his first since July 6th.
Lansing scored three runs in the third inning and another in the fourth to build a 4-0 lead. Marcus Knecht had a RBI groundout in the third and Carlos Perez added a RBI double after the first run had scored on an error. Garis Pena picked up the RBI with a double in the fourth, part of a three hit night for the ninth hitter in the Lansing order.
South Bend scratched out their lone run in the sixth, with Ender Inciarte hitting a single to center and advancing to third on Niko Gallego's infield hit. Matt Helm hit into a fielder's choice, but the run scored and South Bend was on the board.
The Lugnuts then extended the lead to 6-1 with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Victor Capellan (ND) pitching, K.C. Hobson doubled and Oliver Dominguez hit his second triple of the night for a RBI. Dominguez then scored on a single from Michael Crouse giving Lawrence and the Lugnuts a 6-1 lead.
Yazy Arbelo and Roberto Ortiz had the other hits for South Bend, with Arbelo pushing his hitting streak to four and Ortiz taking his current streak to seven straight.
The two teams continue the series at 7:05 PM Eastern Time on Thursday night. RHP Tyler Green (3-7, 5.70 ERA) will start for the Silver Hawks against RHP Marcus Walden (5-3, 3.00 ERA) of Lansing. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:45 PM Eastern Time on www.sportsjuice.com and www.silverhawks.com.
