Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the West Michigan Whitecaps (affiliate of the Detroit Tigers) in the second game of a three-game series. Season Series: West Michigan 4, Dayton 3 (at Dayton: Dragons 3, Whitecaps 1).
Last Night: West Michigan defeated Dayton 9-6 in the first game of the series. The Whitecaps collected 17 hits and took a 9-2 lead to the ninth inning before the Dragons rallied to make a run in the final frame for the second straight night. Dayton scored four runs in the ninth and had the tying run at the plate with one out but came up short. On Monday, they trailed 8-0 going to the ninth and scored six runs in the inning. On Tuesday, David Vidal hit a two-run home run home run while Ronald Torreyes and Donald Lutz had two hits. Chris Berset had a two-run double in the ninth and Juan Duran added a two-run single. Nick Castellanos had three hits and three RBI for West Michigan.
Today's Dragons Starting Pitcher: Mitch Clarke makes his second start and third appearance with the Dragons tonight. Clarke pitched out of the bullpen on Friday vs. Fort Wayne, coming on to replace starting pitcher Tanner Robles after a long rain delay. Clarke took the loss in that outing (4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 SO). He was promoted to Dayton from Billings on July 21 when Kyle Lotzkar went on the disabled list. Clarke appeared in five games (two starts) this season with Billings, going 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA in 20 innings. He pitched with the AZL Reds last season, going 3-1, 2.08 in 12 games (six starts). Clarke was the Reds 19th round draft pick in 2009.
