August 3, 2011 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
The Bandits overcame a 2-0 deficit in the top of the second with a five-run inning on their way to an 8-4 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Wednesday night at Perfect Game Field in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Cedar Rapids got to Bandit starter Seth Blair early with two runs in each of the first two innings. His teammates got him off the hook with the five run second inning. Blair was finished after allowing three earned runs, four total, over two innings. He walked three and fanned three in the no decision.
Chris Edmondson (3-for-4, R, 2 RBI) got the Bandits in the run column with a two-run triple in the top of the second, which plated Jonathan Rodriguez and Colin Walsh. The Bandits went on to score three more times in the inning including an RBI double from Mike O'Neill (2-for-4, 2 RBI).
Kernel starter Brian Diemer (8-9) was knocked out of the game in the second before recording an out. He suffered the loss after getting charged with five runs, all earned, on three hits in an inning-plus.
Drew Benes (1-0) set the tone for the bullpen which didn't allow a run in relief of Blair. Benes gave up only one hit over three scoreless innings to earn the win. He walked just one and struck out five. Dean Kiekhefer (3) earned the save with two scoreless innings to close out the game. Like Benes, he also fanned five.
The Bandits added a pair of runs in the seventh and one more in the ninth for insurance. In addition to the multi-hit games by Edmondson and O'Neill, Ronny Gil (2-for-3, RBI) and Geoff Klein (2-for-5, R, 2 RBI) chipped in with a pair of hits.
The two teams continue the four-game series Thursday night in Cedar Rapids. First pitch is set for 6:35 when Quad Cities right-hander Trevor Rosenthal (5-7, 3.36) toes the rubber against Kernels righty Seth Fowler (0-2, 8.06).

ABOUT THE BANDITS: After three years of ballpark improvements, the River Bandits and the City of Davenport are unveiling some of the most impressive enhancements to Modern Woodmen Park yet. A brand new, state of the art, high definition 20' x 35' video board went live on June 7 and work continues on a new enclosure for the Sky Deck on the suite level of Modern Woodmen Park. Those improvements, in addition to new flood protection, a new front plaza, and a new parking lot directly across the street from the ballpark, are quickly making Modern Woodmen Park one of the premier facilities in all of Minor League Baseball.
