Great Lakes Loons News Release

MIDLAND, MI - In a game marked with rain throughout and two delays, the Great Lakes Loons battled back with a three-run sixth inning to erase a small deficit and defeat the Lake County Captains 4-3 Tuesday night at Dow Diamond before 3,699 fans.

Down 2-1 in the sixth, the Great Lakes Loons benefited from four two-out singles to take their first lead of the game. The first hit of the inning was off of the bat of Chris Jacobs. The Captains had a chance to record out number three during Jon Garcia's at-bat, when he fouled off his fifth pitch behind home plate. Lake County's catcher Moises Montero set up underneath the pop up, but the wind deceived Montero and the ball fell to the ground foul. Garcia took his next pitch to left field for a single and advanced to second on the throw to third. Catcher Steve Domecus followed with a single to left field that scored both runners for the 3-2 lead. A walk to Jesse Bosnik moved him to second and he scored on a single from David Iden.

Earlier in the game, Domecus helped tie the game in the bottom of the fifth, by leading off with a triple to the gap in right field. He was then driven home on a double from Jesse Bosnik.

"[In my first at-bat] I noticed the slider [Captains starter Jordan Cooper] was throwing was hanging a little bit and that's what he threw me there in my second at-bat for the triple," Domecus said, going two-for-four on the night with two runs and two RBI. "I was looking to take that to right-center and I was lucky enough that he threw it over the plate and I got a piece of it."

Starting on the mound for the Loons was right-handed pitcher Garrett Gould, who limited the Captains to two runs on seven hits over six innings en route to his league-leading 11th win of the year. Raul Burgos got a hold for 1.1 innings of work in which he allowed one run, while Scott McGough tossed a final 1.2 hitless innings for his third save.

The game was preceded by a 36-minute rain delay and then interrupted again in the middle of the eighth for a brief 20-minute hiatus.

"Rain delays can be good and they can be bad, I've seen it go both ways," Domecus said. "Some guys kept it pretty loose in the dugout, but when the tarp came up everyone started to focus up a little bit because we knew we had one more inning to play."

Making his Loons debut was Charlie Mirabal, who was substituted in for Nick Akins in the fifth inning to play shortstop. He went 0-for-1 and drew a walk. The win marks the first time in five tries the Loons have won a home game on Tuesday while wearing their Dodger blue uniforms for the Dodgers Route of Champions Nights.

The Loons will continue their four-game series against the Lake County Captains on Wednesday night hoping to extend the streak to four straight wins. Getting the start for the Loons will be RHP Angel Sanchez (5-3, 2.95) against the Captains RHP Michael Goodnight (5-9, 4.50). The night will be another $1 Family Feast Night, presented by Chemical Bank, where fans can purchase hot dogs, 16 oz. Coke products and ice cream sandwiches for one dollar apiece.

The Great Lakes Loons are a fifth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
