Snakes Smoked For 11th Straight Defeat

Starting a six game road trip the Calgary Vipers were thumped 18-6 by the Orange County Flyers at Goodwin Field in Fullerton, California. A season high 18 runs were given up and it was the third straight game the Vipers have surrendered double digits in runs. With the loss the Snakes record drops to 20-19 on the Golden Baseball League season with four games remaining in the first half and Calgary already eliminated from the pennant chase.

Anastacio Martinez (1-4) recorded the loss by allowing eight runs and six free passes in five innings pitched.

Calgary got off to a great start when Jonny Kaplan led off the game with a solo home run for a 1-0 advantage.

Orange County responded in the bottom of the second as Sergio Pedroza, David Harris, and Tyler Keeble all walked to load the bases, Jim Goethals doubled in two runs, and Manny Ayala knocked in a tally with a fielder's choice for a 3-1 lead.

The Flyers opened up the game with five runs in the fifth inning for a 8-1 advantage. Steve Boggs was hit by a pitch, Derrek Perren walked, Jimmy Rohan doubled for a run batted in, Pedroza was intentionally walked, and Keeble launched a grand slam.

In the next half inning the Vipers got three runs back when Kaplan and Brent Metheny hit back-to-back doubles for a run, Kevin Price walked, and both Drew Miller and Caonabo Cosme cashed runs with singles for a 8-4 score.

Orange County hit double-digits in runs in the bottom of the sixth as Perren and Rohan singled followed by a two-run double from Keith Ginter for a 10-4 lead.

The Flyers continued to score in the seventh frame when Keeble doubled, Goethals walked, Eric Pringle hit a RBI single, and Perren doubled in two more tallies for a 13-4 advantage.

Calgary got a run back in the eighth inning for a 13-5 score as Miller singled and scored on a Jorge Mejia RBI double.

Five more runs were piled on by Orange County in the bottom of eighth when Zach Mandelblatt walked, David Harris hit a two-run long ball, Stephen Yoo singled, Pringle tripled in one, Perren walked, and Rohan smacked a two-run triple for a 18-5 advantage.

In the ninth frame the Vipers Dillon O'Krane and Metheny singled followed by a Price RBI fielder's choice for a 18-6 final.
