Tuscon Fall Short In Extras With 5-3 Loss

The Tucson Toros fell short in 10 innings with a 5-3 loss to the Chico Outlaws on Tuesday. The loss was the third straight for the Toros.

For the third consecutive game it was the visiting team who was on the board first. Chico put up three runs within the first three innings to take an early 3-0 lead.

The Toros bats got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 4th inning after an RBI single by 1B Jim Rushford brought in LF Lino Garcia for Tucson's first run of the night.

CF Ron Perodin's RBI hit in the 7th brought in SS Ryan Priddy to bring the Toros within one run. Priddy lead off the inning with a Tucson GBL leading 20th triple of the season.

Starting Pitcher Albie Lopez had a solid outing for the Toros going 7 innings, giving up on 9 hits, 3 runs (2 earned) with 3 strikeouts.

The Toros would tie the game at 3 apiece in the bottom of the 8th when RF Francisco Plasencia hit an RBI single to right. The hit extended Plasencia's hitting streak to 16 games, the long active streak in the league.

In the 10th inning, an RBI single by Maikel Jova and a wild pitch by Toros reliever Andrew Snowdon put the Outlaws on top 5-3. Toros 2B Jose Valdez and LF Lino Garcia each singled in the bottom of the frame to lead off the inning, but ended up stranded as Tucson fell 5-3.

The Toros were led by LF Lino Garcia who finished the night going 1-for-2, with a single, 3 walks, 3 stolen bases and 2 runs scored.

The Toros will play game two of a three game series against the Chico Outlaws tomorrow for We Care Wednesdays, with a 7:00 p.m. first pitch. The game can be heard live on COOL 1450 AM or video streaming over the internet at www.tucsontoros.com.
