Chico Outlaws News Release
The Chico Outlaws and Tucson Toros went to extra innings for a second consecutive night at Hi Corbett Field, with the second go-around going the Toros way in a 4-3 victory for the home team.
Neither starting pitcher got a decision in the game. Garret Holleran got the start for Chico and worked through seven innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits with two strikeouts and a walk. John Bannister got the nod for Tucson and pitched a solid seven innings as well, allowing two earned runs on six hits and striking out four.
Tucson scored first in the bottom of the second on a sac fly by Wally Backman Jr to score Ryan Priddy, giving the Toros a 1-0 lead on an unearned run after a throwing error by shortstop Pascual Del Real allowed Priddy to get to third base on a ball hit by Jim Rushford.
Chico put up two runs in the top of the third inning when Bobby Hill and JJ Sherril hit back-to-back RBI singles, giving the Outlaws a 2-1 lead.
The Toros tied the game at two each on an RBI single by Backman to score Priddy, who led off the frame with a single and then stole second base.
Putting up a solo run in the sixth on a Rushford RBI double, the Toros took a 3-2 lead.
The Outlaws tied up the game in the ninth inning by loading the bases off Toros' closer Emiliano Fruto, who then walked Mike Rose to tie the game at 3-3.
Jesse Orosco Jr (2-0) pitched a scoreless top of the tenth inning for the Toros, setting the stage for Tucson's home half of the inning. Lino Garcia led off the inning by hitting a ball right back to Outlaws reliever Justin Segal (2-1), who threw the ball wide of first, allowing Garcia to get to second on the error. Segal then attempted to pick Garcia off second and threw the ball into centerfield, moving Garcia to third on the second error of the inning by Segal. After an intentional walk to Plascensia to put runners on the corners with nobody out, Segal induced a ground ball off the bat of Priddy for the first out of the inning.
First baseman Jim Rushford then smacked a ball past a drawn-in Outlaws infield into right field to cash in Garcia from third for the game-winning hit and a 4-3 Toros win.
The Outlaws dropped to 31-10 on the year, while Tucson is now 20-23 on the year.
The rubber match of this three game series is Thursday night as two lefties go to the mound. Demetrius Banks starts for Chico opposite Tucson's Vince Davis. The series is tied at one game each and Thursday's game is the last game of the year between these two teams in the regular season.
