Chico Outlaws News Release
CALGARY - After a back and forth game early, the Calgary Vipers pulled away late and defeated the Chico Outlaws 9-4 on Tuesday night at Foothills Stadium.
The game was scoreless until the Outlaws took a 3-0 lead in the fourth. With one out, Pat Terry walked and Will Wright doubled him to third. Evan White drove in Terry with a groundout, before Matt Hibbert and Kyle Wilson delivered back-to-back RBI doubles. Hibbert had four hits in the ballgame.
The early cushion didn't last long for Chico, as Calgary scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to claim the lead. Drew Miller had a sacrifice fly, Jeff Giacomini drove in a run with a single, and Jonny Kaplan delivered a two-run single.
Chico would tie the game with a run in the sixth, as Danny Gonzalez doubled home White. It was one of three hits for Gonzalez in the game. Calgary took control after that. Kaplan's lead off homer in the seventh gave the Vipers the lead for good. They would add one more in the seventh and three in the eighth to put the game away.
Kyle Wilson (2-2) started for Chico and took the loss. The righty pitched seven innings and allowed nine hits and six runs. He walked three and struck out two. Calgary starter Dusty Gober got a no-decision, going 5.2 innings and allowing ten hits and four runs.
Mike Burns (6-1) picked up the win in relief for the Vipers, pitching a scoreless seventh. Chris Bodishbaugh and Henry Mabee each pitched a scoreless inning out of the bullpen for Calgary. The Vipers pen went 3.1 shutout innings and gave up only two hits to the Outlaws.
