Scoring five runs in their last two at-bats the Calgary Vipers (46-26) defeated the Chico Outlaws (38-40) 9-4 before 1521 fans at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. With the game tied 4-4 in the sixth inning Edward Valdez entered the game with two runners in scoring position and retired the only batter he faced to start three and a third innings of scoreless baseball from the bullpen. Following Valdez were Mike Burns (6-1), Chris Bodishbaugh, and Henry Mabee all with scoreless innings while Burns recorded the victory. With the Outlaws held in check the Vipers' bats went to work with two runs in the seventh inning to break the tie and another three in the eighth frame for insurance. Jonny Kaplan led the way with a home run and three runs batted in. With the win the Vipers remain atop the North Division with a half game lead.

Chico jumped onto the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning when Patrick Terry walked, Will Wright doubled, Evan White collected a run batted in groundout, and both Matt Hibbert followed by Kyle Wilson doubled in a run each for a 3-0 advantage.

Calgary responded in the bottom of the fourth as Chad Ehrnsberger followed by Lino Garcia both walked, the runners advanced on a wild pitch, Drew Miller collected a sacrifice fly, with two outs Jeff Giacomini singled in a run, Dusty Gober reached with a base hit, and after another wild pitch Jonny Kaplan singled in two for a 4-3 lead.

The Outlaws tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth frame when White followed by Hibbert singled, and with two outs Danny Gonzalez doubled for a RBI.

The Vipers took back the lead at 6-4 in the seventh inning as Kaplan hit a solo home run for his fifth of the season, Wilver Perez doubled, and after a Jimmy Rohan groundout Ehrnsberger singled in Perez.

In the eighth Calgary added to the lead when Giacomini followed by Garret Holleran singled, with two outs Perez reached on a throwing error which allowed a Giacomini to score, and Rohan knocked in two with a base hit for a 9-4 advantage.

This series in Calgary at Foothills Stadium against the Chico Outlaws concludes on Weiner Wednesday August 17th at 6:30 for $5.00 Student Night.

The Vipers welcome the Yuma Scorpions to Calgary and Foothills Stadium on Thursday August 18th at 6:30 with Dan the One Man Band Performing and on Friday August 19th at 6:30 for GLEE Night. Jose Canseco will join the Scorpions on Saturday August 20th at 5:05 PM for Serve and Protect Day along with Baseball Bonanza while before the game Heartland will take on Hell on Wheels in a Celebrity Softball Game benefiting Slave Lake. On Sunday August 21st the series will wrap up with Fan Appreciation Day at 1:35 including a Celebrity Home Run Derby before the game featuring Canseco, Theo Fleury, and Charlie Simmer.
