Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
HARLINGEN - After being named the North American League Player of the Week, Wilmer Pino continued to swing a red hot bat, going 3-5 with four RBIs as he helped his team to a 7-3 win over the Edinburg Roadrunners Tuesday night at Harlingen Field.
Providing the game-tying and go-ahead RBIs, Pino helped the WhiteWings (46-31) to a series-opening win against the Roadrunners (31-47).
With the WhiteWings trailing 3-0 in the third inning, Pino took over. Hitting a three-run homerun - his 12th of the year - he tied the score at 3.
One inning later, with the score still tied, Pino hit home the go-ahead run on an RBI single to give the WhiteWings a 4-3 lead, one they never surrendered as the 'Wings failed to allow Edinburg to get back on the scoreboard.
Overall, the WhiteWings scored seven unanswered runs in the game after falling behind 3-0.
Eddie Dennis Jr. (3-1, 7.06 ERA) gets the win for WhiteWings while Tim Haines (0-2, 6.04 ERA) is charged with the loss for the Roadrunners.
Haines did not allow a hit in the first two innings but unraveled starting in the third. After giving up two consecutive hits and then the three-run homerun to Pino, he never recovered. The final three innings in which Haines pitched, he allowed five runs on eight hits.
The WhiteWings play game two of their three-game series against the Roadrunners Wednesday night at Harlingen Field as LHP Juan Cedeño (2-0, 6.75 ERA) is expected to take the mound for the WhiteWings.
