Edinburg Continues Playoff Push with Win

HARLINGEN- The Edinburg Roadrunners (41-37) used a four run sixth inning to take game two over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (34-44) with a 9-5 win Monday night at Harlingen field.

Carlton Salters belted a two-run homerun in the top of the second inning giving Edinburg an early 2-0 advantage.

RGV cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single from Roberto Ramirez scoring Kieran Bradford making it 2-1.

Haroki Itakura later singled to left field, this set the stage for Albert Carpen who looped a ball into shallow center field scoring Itakura and Ramirez giving RGV a 3-2 lead.

Edinburg used a four run sixth inning, Maitland tied the game on an RBI single scoring Tim Battle, one batter later Travis Clark hit a two run RBI single giving Edinburg a 6-3 lead.

RGV answered right back, with two outs and the bases loaded Bradford snuck a ball into left field scoring two runs cutting the lead to one run, 6-5.

Derrick Pyles led off with a hit by pitch, one batter later Salters blasted an RBI triple making it 7-5.

Edinburg added a pair of runs in the top of the eighth inning adding to their lead 9-5.

Carlton Salters finished the night going 3-for-4 falling a double shy of the cycle, Mike Loseke (6-2) got the win going five innings while scattering three runs on three hits.

Game three of the series is set for Tuesday, with the first pitch slatted for 7:05 p.m.
