Chico Outlaws News Release

REDDING - Just when you don't think it can't get any better for Jason Stevenson, it does. Chico's ace lefty hurled yet another gem on Sunday evening at Shasta College, as he dominated the Yuma Scorpions with a complete game (7 inning) shutout, en route to a 6-0 Outlaws victory. Stevenson allowed just two hits and one walk, while striking out nine. He has won every game he has pitched, and is now 8-0.

Chico provided their ace with plenty of run support early, scoring three in the first and three in the second. Danny Gonzalez delivered an RBI single and Jake Rife later followed with a two-run single. Rife had two hits and three RBIs in the game, leading the offensive attack for the Outlaws. Gonzalez's sac-fly and Al Quintana's RBI single in the second gave Chico a comfortable lead.

Stevenson cruised from there. He didn't allow a base runner until the fourth, when he walked Jose Canseco. Yuma didn't record a hit until the fifth, when Arnoldo Ponce doubled with one out. It was the second complete game for Stevenson in his past three starts. In his last three outings, he has struck out 33 batters in just 23 innings.

Game one was an opposite story for Chico, as Yuma got on the board early and coasted to a 9-3 win. The Scorpions put up four in the first (two earned) against Chico starter Jake Constantine, who was making his Outlaws debut. They scored four more in the third off Outlaws reliever Jason Roenicke.

Seven of the nine Yuma starters had at least one hit in the game. Carlos Leon had two hits, as did Jared McDonald. McDonald also had three RBIs. Zach Larson tallied a hit and two RBIs for the Scorpions.

Yuma starter James Garcia fought through control problems all day, walking seven, but was effective. The righty went 6.1 innings, allowing six hits and three runs. He struck out five.

Yuma now leads the series 6-4. The 14-game series shifts to Chico and Nettleton Stadium beginning tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
