OF Rife and RHP Concepcion Named Players of the Week

(San Ramon, CA) The North American League, one of the premier independent professional baseball leagues on the continent, announced today that Chico Outlaws RF Jake Rife and Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings RHP Alexander Concepcion have been named the Rawlings Players of the Week for the week of July 31st.
Jake Rife displayed his versatility this week batting .515 with 5 doubles, 3 homeruns, 10 RBI, and 2 stolen bases for the Chico Outlaws. He drew 6 walks, striking out only 3 times. Rife, 24, was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the 2009 MLB Amateur Player draft. Rife reached the Single-A advanced level in his first season as a professional, and spent time there in 2010 as well. He owns a .301 batting average with 5 homeruns in 2 affiliated minor league seasons. This year for the Outlaws, Rife is hitting .343 with 9 homeruns and 50 RBI.
Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings right hander Alexander Concepcion made two starts last week, collecting a win in each of them. In his first start, he pitched 8.2 innings, giving up just 2 runs on 6 hits while recording 4 strikeouts. In his second start, the 26 year old pitched an even 8 innings, giving up no runs on 3 hits while striking out 8. Concepcion was signed as an international free agent in 2005 by the Philadelphia Phillies. He reached Triple-A in 2009 and 2010. In 2011, he is 7-4 for the WhiteWings with a 5.16 ERA and 77 strikeouts through 75 innings pitched.
