Lake County Fielders News Release
Zion, IL -The Lake County Fielder's losing streak has now hit un-lucky number 13 in a close 2-1 loss to the Calgary Vipers Sunday afternoon in Game 1 of what was scheduled to be two seven-inning doubleheaders. Game two however was postponed due to the downpour of rain at Fielders Stadium in-between games.
Leading the offensive charge for the Fielders Sunday was second baseman John Dziomba, who finished two for three at the plate, raising his batting average to .286 on the year. Travis Weaver had the lone RBI scoring catcher Zach Getsee in the ninth. The Fielders stranded the game-tying run at third to end the game in the bottom of the seventh.
Fielder's starter Ryan Carr almost went the distance; going six and two-thirds of an inning, allowing two runs; both earned, on five hits while walking three and striking out three. Reliever Nick Kennedy came in for the final out but gave up two hits; including a run charged to Carr, before getting the final out in the top of the seventh.
The top two hitters in their batting order, Johnny Kaplan and Wilver Perez led the charge offensively for the Calgary Vipers. Each had two hits in the game, including an RBI for Kaplan. Third Baseman Chad Ehrnsberger had the other RBI for the Vipers.
Viper's starter Dusty Gober went five and a third innings, allowing no runs on five hits while walking two and striking out five.
The final two games of this series are scheduled for Monday as part of a two 7-inning game doubleheader. Game 1 is a make-up for this past Tuesday's game, which was cancelled due to poor field conditions. Game 1's first pitch is scheduled for 6 PM. Game 2 of the doubleheader will start about 45 minutes after the final out is recorded in Game 1 at Fielders Stadium in Zion, Illinois. All games can be heard on 1220 AM WKRS, wkrs1220.com, or at fieldersbaseball.com with Derek Diesner on the call.
