Fielders Walk-Off Win to End Season

Zion, IL - The Fielders ended the season in dramatic fashion with a 5-4 walk-off vicotry against their border foes; the Kenosha Kings. Lake County won the season ending series by a final of nine games to eight.

Third Baseman Chad Rebecca's three-run double plated the tying and winning runs Monday evening. Lake County got the scoring going in the first with a lead-off single by Jairo Valdez. Valdez stole second and would later come around to score the first run of the game on an error by Kenosha centerfielder Paul Pulera. The Fielders scored their other four runs in the bottom of the ninth.

Fielders starter Ryan Torrey went six innings, allowing one run on five hits while walking one and striking out four. He was relieved by Matt Atkins who struggled giving up three runs on three hits in one inning of work. Bryant Asnicar came in to pitch for a third of an inning and walked two batters; with Adam Polston coming in to finish off the game for Lake County. Polston went one and two-thirds of an inning, allowing no runs on no hits and striking out a batter to pick up the win for Lake County.

Kenosha starter Travis Vanderwall went seven innings allowing one run on seven hits. Kenosha's bullpen is what did them in Monday, as right handed relievers John Kleinmeier and John Snelton tried to close things out. Kleinmeier lasted two thirds of an inning and exited with the bases loaded. Snelton came into the game after Kleinmeier gave up an RBI single to Herman Petzold with two outs. Snelton delivered a 2-1 pitch to third baseman Chad Rebecca, who deposited it to the right center gap scoring three runs; all charged to Kleinmeier who took the loss.

The Fielders want to thank the fans for their support this season and look forward to another great year in 2012.
